History of the Richard D. Haines Medical Library

Library History

The Richard D. Haines Medical Library, founded in 1919 by Dr. Arthur C. Scott Sr., provides a variety of services to meet your information needs.  These include full service literature searches, reference and research queries, inter-library loan, document delivery, and apps.  The library provides access to 120 databases, 155,000 electronic books, 91,515 videos, and 108,658 electronic journals.  The library also has a ten workstation computer lab and twelve public workstations as well as 114 user seats and two study rooms.  Three professional staff and two technical services staff are available to assist you in making the best use of these resources.  We are located on the third floor of the Medical Education Center on the Baylor Scott and White Medical Center – Temple campus and approved staff have 24/7 access to the space. 

Donations

The Libraries accept donations, however, once received, the item becomes the sole property of Baylor Scott & White Health Libraries.  As such, the Libraries reserve the right to decide whether or not to add the item to the collection based upon its relevancy and usefulness to the collection, completeness of the volume or set, and currency of the information. The Libraries accept only current textbooks or medical books published within the past 5 years, or books of historical value published before 1950.

Who can use the libraries?

The Baylor Scott & White Health Libraries service the educational, research, and clinical programs of Baylor Scott & White Health and Baylor College of Medicine-Temple. However, members of the general public are welcome to use the Library's collection in house.
