Remote Access

OpenAthens works with CyberArk to allow users access to library resources.

OpenAthens

OpenAthens works with our local network authentication system, CyberArk, to provide users off-campus access to most on-campus electronic library resources. (Exceptions are noted below.) Remote access is granted either indirectly through the catalog on the Baylor Scott & White Health website or directly through the website of the electronic resource’s provider if you used Google for your search. For detailed instructions on how to use OpenAthens, please see our Off-Campus Access Guide linked below.

In addition, many of our provider's web sites are "OpenAthens" aware, providing patrons with the ability to log in via OpenAthens directly from their web sites (i.e. without going first going to the BSWH web site). Typically the link will say “institutional login”, “openathens login”, or “shibboleth login”. This link is often found in the top right corner of websites. You will be able to stay logged in to OpenAthens as long as you keep your browser tab open.

Please note that the following journals cannot be retrieved off-campus: Journal of Continuing Nursing Education, Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy, and Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strasbismus Surgery.

Troubleshooting Access to eResources

If you're unable to access an electronic resource successfully from off-campus, try the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Check to make sure the eRseource is available remotely. Many of the Richard D. Haines resources are available electronically. Journal exceptions are Journal of Continuing Nursing Education, Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy, and Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology & Stabismus.

  2. Confirm that the browser you are using is the latest version. Check your browser version here. If it is not, try updating your browser.

  3. Clear your browser's cache. Your browser will save files in a temporary cache to make page loading faster. However, old files in the cache can sometimes interfere with a browsers' proper functioning. Please note, that instructions for clearing the cache are browser-specific.
  4. Try a different browser. All browsers are a little different and could have problems correctly generating different parts, or all of, different web pages.
  5. If you continue to have access issues, please report the problem to the library.
